Kat Long is the author of The Forbidden Apple: A Century of Sex and Sin in New York City (Ig Publishing), the first book to explore more than 100 years of sexual history in the city that never sleeps.
Kat was the editor-in-chief of the New York Blade, the city’s only gay-owned LGBT newspaper, until June 2009. She was previously the managing editor of GO, a monthly magazine for lesbians.
Kat has been a freelance journalist for more than 8 years, covering LGBT politics and culture, sexuality and women’s issues. Her articles have appeared in the Village Voice, Advocate, Gay and Lesbian Review, Out Traveler, Playgirl, Bust, Venus Zine, Washington Blade, HX and numerous web magazines. In addition, she is a Contributing Writer with more than 50 articles published on Suite101.com.
She also contributed entries to the forthcoming Encyclopedia of Gay Folklife, to be published by M.E. Sharpe in 2010.
Kat graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1997 with a BA in Creative Writing, and is currently a graduate student in the history program at Hunter College/City University of New York.
